CITY OF MERRIAM FEED THE NEED FOOD DRIVE

MERRIAM, KANSAS (October 4, 2011) – The City of Merriam is teaming up with the Johnson County North Central Multi-Service Center, and sponsoring a “Feed the Need” community food and fund drive during the month of October. Donations received through the drive will help feed those in need throughout our community.

Donation bins can be found at City Hall & Merriam Fire Department (9000 W. 62nd Terrace), Merriam Police Department (9010 W. 62nd Street), at the Irene B. French Community Center (5701 Merriam Drive), and the Merriam Public Works Department (6901 Knox). Donation bins can also be found at Baron Automotive Group (9010 Shawnee Mission Parkway).

Your contribution means much needed help, and hope, will be available to those in need.

Most Needed Food Items:

Canned vegetables

Canned fruit

Boxed meals (Hamburger Helper, Pasta Roni)

Canned meats/tuna

Peanut butter & jelly

Canned soup

Hot & cold cereal

Most Needed Household Supplies &
Personal Care Items:

Soup

Deodorant

Shampoo

Toilet Paper

* Product donations should be boxed, bagged or canned. To avoid breakage, do not donate products in glass containers.

Financial Contributions:

For every $1 donated, the Johnson County North Central Multi-Service Center can provide five meals!

· Bake Sale – Monday, October 10th through Friday, October 14th

Hours: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

· Sealed Bid, Silent Auction – Wednesday, Oct. 19th through Friday, Oct. 21st

Location: Merriam City Hall Community Room (upper level),

Hours: Open between the hours of 8 am and 4:30 pm Wed – Thurs, and 8 am to noon on Friday

The MINI Coupe has arrived at Baron MINI

Wow! That is the word I uttered while exiting the All-New MINI Coupe S. While I am not the prototypical buyer for this car due to my personal situation (two kids, two dogs, one wife); I am jealous of those that will own this little slice of driving heaven. It bears mentioning that I not a professional driver or writer, but my test drive compels me to share my thoughts and better yet, my feelings of the newest edition to the MINI line of cars.

There is no better test track than driving north on I-35N taking the 635N ramp only to immediately cross three lanes to take the long and winding exit ramp to Merriam Drive. This route allows you to put the car through its paces: handling, acceleration, and braking. After all these are the characteristics you seek when looking to own a roadster. The MINI Coupe S doesn’t disappoint. It shifts smoothly through its 6 speed manual transmission and referring to the Coupes great handling in turns, it is difficult to get unstuck.

Driving under the 635N overpass and turning right to get on 635S you again to experience the acceleration and corner-handling ability the MINI Coupe exhibits, feathering the throttle through the long turn is a breathtaking only to punch in the straight heading back to I-35S and back to Baron MINI.

Surprised heads snapped to look at the Coupe as I passed them with flashes of curious envy as I pressed the pedal further down letting the tuned exhaust let go a classic roadster growl. Come drive this car…you’d be nuts if you didn’t.

Team USA Bobsled to be displayed at Baron BMW

Come see the Team USA Bobsled at Baron BMW September 19th – 29th! The US Bobsled and Skeleton Federation is proud to partner with the Susan G Komen Foundation in Sliding for Hope. Each person who makes a minimum contribution of $50.00 shall have the opportunity to have a survivor or “in memory” name printed on the USBSF sled that competes on the 2011-2012 World Cup race circuit around the world. Ten percent of all donations to the Sliding for Hope program will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for its Global Promise Fund. The remaining 90% of the donation amount will fund the USBSF to enhance the athletic development of bobsled and skeleton athletes to compete at higher levels at the next Olympic Winter Games.
